Quick summary: Type 27 depressed centre grinding wheel, 180 x 7.2 x 22.23 mm (7 x 1/4 x 7/8 inch), made in Germany. For both steel and stainless steel (STEEL+INOX). Maximum speed 8,500 r/min, oSa certified, compliant with EN 12413.
1. General information
- The PFERD E 180-7 PSF STEELOX grinding wheel is designed for rough grinding, weld seam grinding, bevelling and surface cleaning on carbon steel and stainless steel (INOX). The label states STEEL+INOX: one wheel covers both materials.
- The wheel contains fillers with a very low content of iron (Fe), chlorine (Cl) and sulphur (S). As a result, it does not contaminate stainless steel after processing. This makes it suitable for stainless steel workshops with strict corrosion-resistance requirements.
- The PSF line is rated ★★☆☆ on PFERD's 4-star scale, balancing price and performance. This is the Germany-made version; DAVITA also supplies the version made in China by PFERD (EIDV05901).
- The wheel carries the oSa mark of the Organisation for the Safety of Abrasives (osa-abrasives.org). It complies with the European standard EN 12413 and with USA ANSI B7.1 / OSHA regulations.
2. Benefits
2.1 Benefits for the plant
- No contamination of stainless steel, less rust after processing. Iron left on a stainless steel surface causes rust spots, and chlorine and sulphur increase the risk of pitting corrosion. Fillers with very low Fe/Cl/S content help stainless steel keep its corrosion resistance. This reduces cleaning and rework costs and lowers the risk of customer complaints.
- One wheel for both steel and stainless steel. A single item covers two materials. The plant stocks fewer SKUs, the store issues tools faster, and operators no longer pick the wrong wheel for the steel or stainless steel area.
- Calculate cost per job, not per wheel. DAVITA recommends a trial run that compares how many wheels are used on the same length of weld seam. This is the most accurate way to measure real cost.
- Clear safety documentation. The oSa mark and the EN 12413 and ANSI B7.1 markings printed on the wheel give the HSE department a basis to approve the consumable and help meet customer or project owner requirements during plant audits.
- Complete documents. Each delivery comes with an invoice, certificate of origin (CO), certificate of quality (CQ) and user manual. These meet the requirements of project files, audits and purchasing procedures.
- Reliable supply from an authorised distributor. DAVITA restocks regularly and delivers fast, so the plant can keep its consumables inventory low.
2.2 Benefits for operators
- No need to stop and change wheels when switching materials. The wheel grinds both carbon steel and stainless steel. On structures that combine both materials, operators keep grinding with one wheel without stopping the machine to change it.
- Grinding close to corners and edges. The depressed centre (Type 27) keeps the clamping nut below the wheel face. Operators can reach fillet welds, plate edges and tight spots without obstruction.
- 180 mm, 7.2 mm thick wheel for heavy grinding on large structures. The large diameter and thick, fibreglass-reinforced wheel remove a lot of material and handle large weld seams on thick plate, beams and tanks.
- Peace of mind at work. The wheel meets EN 12413 safety requirements and carries the oSa mark. Combined with a wheel guard and proper personal protective equipment, operators work more safely.
- Fits common 180 mm angle grinders. The 22.23 mm bore is the standard size and fits most 180 mm angle grinders.

5. Typical applications and usage notes
5.1 Applications
- Heavy grinding of large weld seams on thick plate, beams, steel structures and tanks.
- Bevelling before welding and deburring after cutting.
- Rough surface grinding, rust removal and cleaning of castings.
- Used in steel structure and equipment fabrication, shipbuilding and plant maintenance.

5.2 Usage notes
- Use only on machines rated no higher than 8,500 r/min.
- Never mount the wheel on a machine whose speed exceeds the maximum speed on the label – for example, do not fit a larger wheel on a smaller machine.
- Always use the machine's wheel guard. Wear eye or face protection, a dust mask, ear protection and gloves, as shown by the pictograms on the label.
- Hold the wheel at about 15°–30° to the surface. Do not use the grinding wheel for cutting.
- Before mounting, check that the wheel is free of cracks and chips, and is not damp or oily. Run it without load for about 30 seconds.
- Store in a dry place. Use the wheel before the expiry date stamped on the metal ring at the bore (EXP marking).
